The effect of cetane number and some indicators on some energy requirements and specific fuel consumption

Abstract
The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of three factors,
including diesel fuel cetane number at three levels (regular diesel fuel
without any additives, cetane number 54, diesel fuel with 10 ml/L
AMSOIL additive, cetane number 57, and diesel fuel with 14.5 ml/L
AMSOIL additive, cetane number 60), two-level subsoil plowshare
edge type (conventional and locally manufactured), and two-level
subsoil plowshare wing type (35 cm and 45 cm wings) on specific fuel
consumption, extraction efficiency, extraction power, and exhaust
temperature. The results of the experiment were analysed using a
randomised complete block design (RCBD) and a split-split plot. The
diesel fuel cetane number was used as the main plot with three levels,
the subsoil ploughshare edge type was used as a subplot with two
levels, and the wing type was used as split-sub-plot panels and at two
levels. The most important results obtained in this study are that the
cetane number (57) achieved the best value, with a significant
difference, for the exhaust temperature characteristic (185°C). The
two-way interaction between cetane number and wing type in the
studied characteristics is also evident. The interaction between diesel
fuel with a cetane number of 60 and wings with a width of 45 cm
achieved the best value, with a significant difference, for the drag
efficiency characteristic (70.95%). In comparison, the interaction
between diesel fuel with a cetane number of 57 and wings with a width
of 45 cm achieved the best value, with a significant difference, for the
exhaust temperature characteristic (190.50°C). The results showed that
the interaction between fuel with a cetane number of 57, the locally
manufactured leg edge, and wings with a width of 35 cm achieved the
best values. Based on the results obtained in this study, the use of a
fuel improver to improve the cetane number has a practical impact on
improving the efficiency of the internal combustion engine.
